Are you ready to place an order for your bookstore or library? Below are instructions on whom to contact and what information to include in your order.

How to place an order

You can place an order through your inventory management system or via email at orders-books@degruyterbrill.com. You will receive a confirmation email with a ticket number. Please retain the ticket number so we can track the progress of your order.

When ordering books, eBooks or book series, make sure to include:

  • Title(s)
  • ISBN
  • Quantity of each item
  • Your billing address
  • Shipping details (if different from billing address)
  • Full shipping address if using freight
  • Your email address for us to get in touch with invoices, credit notes or other information about your order

When ordering journals, yearbooks and databases, include:

  • Title(s)
  • format (print or digital)
  • Quantity of each item
  • For journals: Would you like to renew your subscription automatically or manually?
  • For databases: Would you like to purchase or subscribe?
  • Your billing address and shipping details (if different from billing address)
  • Full shipping address for freight
  • Your email address for us to get in touch with invoices, credit notes or other information about your order

If you're ordering digital products for an institution or library, we will also need:

  • The complete address of the institution or library
  • An email address for access confirmation
  • IP range

If you’re ordering a digital product as a private customer, all we will need is your email address.

Order processing & delivery times

We process orders within 24 hours and aim to respond to any inquiries within 72 hours.

After an order is processed, it usually takes around 2 business days to be delivered, however this timeframe may vary depending on location and season.

Making payments

You can pay for your book order via wire transfer, check or credit card. You will receive a payment reminder two days after your account becomes due.

How to return an order

You can find our full return policy in our Terms and Conditions under item 16. Remissions. If you are a retailer based in Germany and subject to legal and contractual fixed book price regulations, you are entitled to return goods in accordance with the following provisions:

  • To make a return (remission), the retailer must first obtain the agreement of De Gruyter.
  • The details of the purchase must be provided along with the return.
  • De Gruyter reserves the right to refuse unauthorized returns.
  • Returns must be delivered to De Gruyter carriage paid.

The following are excluded from returns:

  • volumes whose fixed price was lifted over six weeks earlier by an announcement in the Börsenblatt
  • volumes six weeks after the publication of a new edition of that volume
  • goods that were invoiced more than eighteen months before the return

Authorized and undamaged returns will be credited to the customer in full based on the original retail price. Twenty-five percent of the fixed retail price of damaged but resalable returns will be credited to the customer provided no other specific agreement is reached. De Gruyter Brill reserves the right to refuse to issue credit for damaged copies that De Gruyter Brill does not reasonably consider to be resalable.

Each calendar year, De Gruyter Brill accepts returns up to a value of five percent of the annual revenue of the respective retailer. Electronic products can only be returned in their original packaging (sealed).
