Reinbot von Durne describes his legend of Georg as a "flower of truth." But is it even appropriate to speak of the sacred in a florid, embellished – in a word, amplified – mode? This study looks at the three medieval legends of Sente Servas, Georg, and Barlaam and Josaphat to examine how what is in principle indescribable – the sacred – is articulated by especially ornate means.
